REGIONAL YOUTH EXHIBITION IN LOWER RIVER REGION (LRR)

ACTIVITY REPORT

Tacking the economic root causes of irregular migration, increased job opportunities and income prospect of youth. Gambia Youth Chamber of Commerce organised first ever Regional Youth Exhibition in Lower River Region Jarra Soma.

On Saturday 21st October, 2017 GYCC team with the Regional Youth Committee conducted a radio talk show in Soma Community Radio ahead of LRR Regional Youth Exhibition for publicity of the Exhibition.

On Sunday 22nd October, 2017 GYCC conducted a Pre-trade fair training for 33 Youth Exhibitors 19 females 14 males ahead of the Jarra Soma exhibition. The training took place at Pakalinding Youth Centre.

During the training, Presentation on Marketing Strategies by Mr. Ousman Sonko of Manager’s Prescription and Consultancy Firm. He presents a successful marketing strategies during the event.

In concluding the Pre-training, a presentation on GYCC framework by Kawsu Fadera the admin and finance officer of GYCC, to better raise the understanding of the youth entrepreneurs who were potential members of the chamber.

 

In the evening of 22nd October, GYCC organised a Caravan around Jarra Soma and the surrounding villages to market the exhibition and raise awareness on Youth Exhibition.

Day 1

On Tuesday, the Regional Youth Exhibition kicked off on the 24th October, 2017, with 43 Youth Exhibitors 29 females and 14 males attended, ranging from Agricultural producers, locally processed juice vendors, cosmetics and Fashions, vegetables producers and Food caterers. 200 people visited.

Day 2

On Wednesday, 25th October 2017, the Organising committee continue to publishing the Exhibition on social media and Community Radio in soma, end of the day we have receive 400 costumer/visitors.        

Day 3

The official opening ceremony of Regional Youth Exhibition was held on Thursday, 26th October and was chaired by Kawsu Fadera. A welcoming remark by Mohammed Karl Barrow, representative of the Regional Youth Committee, this was followed a statement from Chief Executive Officer of GYCC Mr Baboucarr Kebbeh who spoke on behalf of the board and management, Miss Elisa from ITC-YEP deliver a key note address, highlighted the purpose of YEP and its mandate, She further recognised the efforts put in place by GYCC and YEP in staging the first ever Regional Youth Exhibition.

In delivering the official opening statement, The Governor of Lower River Region Madam Fanta Bojang Samateh Manneh, commended the organisers for putting up the initiative through the YEP, She further assured her Government’s commitment in supporting young entrepreneurs of the region to further excel. In concluding, She challenged the young entrepreneurs to make the best use of the exhibition and further request the organisers to consider providing capital support for the exhibitors.

The day was concluded with a conducted tour by the Governor and other dignitaries to the exhibition stalls and was later joined by exhibitors for a group photo. We receive 500 costumers/visitors.

Day 4

On the 27th October, The officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sport (MOYS) (Lamin Darboe of National Youth Council NYC and Landing B Sanneh of National Enterprise Development Initiative NEDI) visited the exhibition and conducted a tour around the stalls and shared their positive impression on the organisation and participation of the youth of LRR. We receive 200 customers/visitors, these day was day of local Lumo in nearest Village called Jarra Bureng that’s cost the low tone out.

Day 5

On the 29th October, 2017 the GYCC organise capacity building workshop on Product Development which was attended by 40 exhibitors 23 females 17 males. The workshop was chaired by Mr Adama Beyai 2nd vice President of GYCC board.  A Presentation on product development and packaging was done by Mr Ebrima Kinteh Specialised enterprise trainer of SOS Children Villages, followed by a presentation on Customer Care by Ismaila Sambou of GYCC. We receive 300 costumers/visitors.

Day 6

Official closing ceremony take place on Sunday 29th October, 2017, the ceremony was chair by Mr Baboucarr Kebbeh CEO of GYCC. Representative from Governor LRR, Gambia immigration, Mansakonko Area council Soma, National youth council (NYC) and National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI).
